MMARTINYCA was founded in Menorca in Dec 2015 on a final purpose: Leaving a sustainable footprint in our planet.
Makers of traditional Menorcan sandals, All shoes are ethically made by cobblers at his family’s small business in Menorca's fair-factories, conserving our native footwear and the origins of an ancient tradition alive, we keep intact the recipe from the XVIII century.
Why do we do it?
A shoe should do something more than just cover pretty feet...so we begin creating an authentic and honest footwear, inspired on this principle: The Economic Benefit has the same importance as People and Nature.
We are committed to providing something unique for 3 REASONS:
1.-THE POPULAR LOCAL PRODUCT:
The “Abarca”, or “Menorquina”, is a traditional and popular sandal model hailing from the Balearic Islands, and especially Menorca. The sandal model, traditionally used by Spanish fishermen in the 1800s, was originally made with old tractor tires, a practice that was abandoned in favour of new rubbers, moulded into the shape of a car tire but without any of the original and durable qualities. MMARTINYCA brings back the original car tire Abarca sandal, made with a commitment to sustainability.
- THE SOLES: 100% RECYCLED TIRES
- Non- slip: The wheels resists exposure to snow and rain
- Will last over time: The wheels travels more than 40.000 km
- 100% Sustainable: The wheels are not BIODEGRADABLE
There are extra cost incurred by recycling the wheels to turn them into the soles, but is the best investment to conserve their indestructible properties that in other materials doesn´t exist.
2.-THE ART OF CRAFT: A POPULAR PROCESS THAT WE KEEP INTACT
Each year Footwear factories close in the Balearic Islands, (Menorca) due to the presence of "low-cost" fashion where the value of handmade footwear has been lost.
All Martinycas keep intact the recipe from the XVIII century, recovering an ancient tradition from our original native footwear.
Handcrafted with Wheel + Leather + thread + 8 hands (shoe-last man, tanner, seamstress and shoemaker)
We follow an artisan statement that keeps a tradition alive that we are loosing in Spain.
We are proud to say that we make our Martinycas as nobody no longer does.
3.-A UNIQUE TRIBUTE TO THE SUSTAINABLE SIDE
For each pair of Martinycas you order, we will recycle one wheel to make your soles and you will also be donating another wheel to build social impact projects that leave sustainable footprint in our planet.
